A mother who attended Northern Provincial Hospital (NPH) in Santo this week has raised concerns over reported changes to maternity service fees, claiming pregnant women will face significant increases from July 1.

The mother told the Daily Post that she was informed during her visit that the first pregnancy check-up fee would increase from VT300 to VT5,400.

According to the information provided by the mother, the increase is linked to additional medical services included during the first antenatal visit, including blood tests, scans, X-rays and other medical checks required as part of the examination.

She said the previous VT300 fee covered the initial visit, but the new reported charge would include the cost of the additional procedures and examinations carried out during the first pregnancy check-up.

The mother also claimed other maternity-related fees would increase, including the cost for mothers who give birth and remain at the hospital overnight.

She said the current overnight stay fee of VT690 would reportedly increase to VT1,690 per night, while weekly antenatal visits would increase from VT100 to VT300.

The mother reminded expectant mothers to be aware of the reported changes and prepare accordingly if the new fees come into effect from July 1.

She further told the Daily Post that she was informed the Ministry of Health (MoH) had approved and signed the changes in April, with the new fees expected to start on July 1.

However, the MoH has not yet confirmed the reported fee increases.

The Daily Post has contacted the MoH for clarification on the reported changes and whether the new fees will be implemented from July 1.
