A senior police officer was remanded yesterday afternoon, following his alleged involvement in a criminal offence.

Daily Post investigations revealed that the officer is stationed at the Lenakel Police Station on Tanna.

According to our sources, the senior police officer is facing one count of sexual intercourse without consent, contrary to section 90 (b2) and 91 of the Penal Code Act [CAP 135].

At the Magistrate Court yesterday, Daniel Yawha, the defense counsel representing the defendant filed a bail application however, it was refused by Magistrate Trevor Naieu, who said any bail applications should be forwarded to the Supreme Court.

The case will resume on June 4 to test the evidence, prior advancing it to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the name of the officer is being withheld by police as investigations into his case are underway.

Police say further details on the case will be released once investigations are completed.
