torba-educators-gain-key-skills-from-leadership- training

Schools in TORBA Province are expected to see improvements in decision-making, project management, and student outcomes as local school leaders complete the second of a three-part Leadership and Management training course.

This training is a central element of the Ministry of Education and Training’s (MoET) framework to enhance school management across Vanuatu by equipping educators with essential skills to drive positive change in schools.

School leaders play a crucial role in supporting their teachers and school communities to achieve better educational outcomes, ensuring that all children learn effectively and complete their schooling.

During this second phase of training, the eight female and seven male participants are acquiring valuable skills in Work Health and Safety, Risk Management, and People Management.

These skills are vital for effective school leadership and will significantly improve school management and educational performance in the province.

The Australia Pacific Training Coalition Leadership and Management Training programme began earlier this year with the first phase, and participants are set to complete their third and final phase in October and November 2024.

Upon successful completion, they will graduate in May 2025 with a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. The training programme benefits from the expertise of principals, deputy principals, provincial education officers, and representatives from training centres across TORBA Province.

These dedicated educators, from diverse islands such as Mota Lava and Vanua Lava, are leading efforts to advance education in the province.

The MoET’s commitment to developing the leadership skills of school leaders in TORBA Province aligns with its broader strategy to ensure educators are well-equipped to manage their schools effectively and deliver high-quality education to Vanuatu’s children.

Mrs. Olivia Keith Ling, Principal of Baldwin Lonsdale Memorial College in Sola, Vanua Lava, and a participant in the training, remarked that the programme will greatly enhance her ability to excel in her role as the school leader.

“I am developing the management skills I need to work effectively with my school staff, engage with the school community, and collaborate with the Ministry of Education and Training.

My goal is to ensure that every child at Baldwin Lonsdale Memorial College receives the best education possible, and this training is helping me achieve that,” Mrs. Ling said.

The MoET is confident that the skills and knowledge gained by the participants in this programme will have a lasting, positive effect on the education system in TORBA Province.
