Some U16 AFL players from Vanuatu will travel to Gold Coast in Australia to participate in the South Pacific Talent Camp.

Pascaline Taitsegon,Truthy Taripakoa and Gabriella Malas will represent Vanuatu in the girls’ category guided by coaches Nancy Patterson and Patricia Salili.

The boys’ squad features Jim Vireibo and Oliver Songi guided by coach Lent Tevi.

Delivered in partnership with the Australian Government, the five-day program is designed to expose Pacific players to elite standards, covering every aspect of preparation, from education and nutrition to strength and conditioning, skills development, tactical drills and competitive match play.

Participants from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Nauru and Tonga will take part in intensive training sessions and matches, with talent scouts from both Queensland clubs in attendance.

The girls’ camp will run from February 18 to 23, followed by the boys’ camp from March 11 to 16

Vanuatu AFL Program Manager, Nancy Patterson, said the challenge is necessary.

AFL Vanuatu has been sending players to the camps for the past four years, but 2026 marks a notable milestone with the inclusion of a player from Pentecost for the first time, 15-year-old Jim Vireibo.

These representatives were selected from the AFL Vanuatu Talent Academy, launched on 12 October 2024 with support from PacificAus Sports.

The academy forms part of the PacificAus Sports AFL South Pacific High Performance Pathway (2024–2027), a partnership between the Australian Government and the AFL aimed at building a sustainable talent pathway across the region.
