Three media practitioners from Vanuatu and two from the Solomon Islands are currently in Brisbane, Australia, participating in an intensive Digital Bootcamp hosted by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in partnership with the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS).

The week-long training, which commenced yesterday and will conclude this Friday, is designed to enhance the digital storytelling skills of participants and strengthen their capacity to deliver impactful content. The programme provides practical, hands-on experience and aims to help media and communications officers make the most of the tools and resources available to them, improving both efficiency and creativity in their work.

Representing the Solomon Islands are Ronald Toito’ona from In-Depth Solomons and Loretta Manele from the Island Sun. From Vanuatu, participants include Ezra Toara of the Vanuatu Daily Post, along with Sabrina Tabi and Lorine Russel from Sista, a Vanuatu-based women’s rights organisation.

According to PACMAS, the Digital Bootcamp is part of its broader effort to support Pacific media through capacity-building initiatives. In addition to training, the programme also provides support for participants’ projects under the PACMAS Content Fund, ensuring that the skills gained are directly applied to ongoing media work across the region.

By the end of the week, attendees are expected to have refined their abilities in producing compelling digital stories, with a stronger focus on engaging audiences through innovative formats and platforms. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the role digital media plays in amplifying Pacific voices and connecting communities across the region.
