Vanuatu has secured its second ITTF- Oceania Cup title after table tennis star Anolyn Lulu claimed gold last week in Canberra, Australia.

Following in the footsteps of Priscilla Tommy, who won the first Pacific Cup, Lulu—dubbed the “Golden Mama”—clinched victory on Sunday before returning to Vanuatu on Monday.

ITTF Oceania Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Scott Houston, commended her achievement and expressed his support for Vanuatu, particularly in light of the challenges the country has faced following the devastating earthquake on December 17.

“I congratulate all our member associations on their performance, as matches were played to a high standard and in the right spirit,” Houston said.

“I would like to express my appreciation to Vanuatu’s Anolyn Lulu and her coach Satoshi Takashima.

“There was a catastrophic earthquake in Vanuatu in December, which meant their participation at the event was not certain. To make it to the event and win gold in the Pacific Cup Women’s Singles is an outstanding achievement, and I hope this helps boost morale in Vanuatu as the recovery efforts continue.”

Lulu received her medal alongside her coach, both celebrating the hard-earned victory.

Reflecting on her win, Lulu expressed her gratitude and pride, acknowledging the difficulties she faced in preparing for the tournament.

“I’m glad and proud to receive this award, especially after enduring a disaster. With all the impacts, I only had three weeks of training, and my travel plans were uncertain,” she said.

“It was mentally disturbing, but I knew I needed to stay strong, and that was my focus before and during the trip.”

The Pacific Cup featured teams from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, French Polynesia and New Caledonia, with Vanuatu once again proving its strength on the international stage.
