The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has been informed by the Ministry of Finance that the first roll out of the teachers’ salary anomalies is due on Thursday, June 27 this week.

The first roll out of Vt156, 807, 540 will cover 576 teachers and another 585 will be included in the next installment of Vt374, 646, 799.

Former TSC Secretary General (SG), Joseph Timatua, said they will address the issue of overpaid once they settle the anomalies for underpaid teachers and those still occupying the old teacher salary scale.

Out of almost 4,000 teachers throughout Vanuatu, 1, 161 are covered in the Vt500 million budget for anomalies that was recently approved by parliament for the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

Former SG Timatua thanked the teachers for their patience and loyalty while TSC, Vanuatu Teachers Union (VTU) and the MOET worked to resolve the matter.

He commended the parties for working cooperatively together in sorting out the anomalies.

The Minister of Education, Jean Pierre Nirua, is commended for providing political support to ensure that the government approved the money for the anomalies. The staff of the MOET are also commended for their hard work.

President of VTU, Willie Abiut, applauded the Administrative Officer of the Vanuatu National Workers Union (VNWU) and MP for Port Vila, Ephraim Kalsakau, for providing advice to VTU when the situation became difficult.

Mr Abiut also urged the government to be serious when it comes to addressing the concerns of teachers because they play a critical role in shaping the lives of the country’s future leaders.
