miller-pata-prepares-for-international-coaching-debut

Miller Pata is set to make her international debut as the new Head Coach of the National Women’s Beach Volleyball Team, with preparations intensifying for the upcoming Pacific Mini-Games in Palau.

The Vanuatu Volleyball Federation (VVF) has ramped up efforts ahead of the games, scheduled for June, and this week marks the first selection of players to represent the national squad.

Leading the charge, Pata is determined to craft a team capable of achieving success on the international stage.

Pata’s senior squad, consisting of Lineline Matauatu, Shershyn Toko, and Majabelle Lawac, has returned from international tournaments and is back on the court under her guidance, training for qualification for the Mini-Games.

Assisting Pata is Coach Manu, with the pair also utilizing their weekly sessions to scout rising talent from the U19 squad.

“Our goal is to form a strong, balanced team,” Pata said.

The team will feature both male and female athletes playing the 2-a-side format of beach volleyball.

Pata is also pre-selecting a group of trainees to serve as potential substitutes in case of emergencies.

“We hope to grab gold at the games and fly our colors once more,” said Pata, who is affectionately known as the ‘Queen of the Court’ for her accomplishments as a player.

Her transition into coaching has been seamless, as she continues to demonstrate her leadership both on and off the court.

Pata’s impact extends beyond the national team, as earlier this month she visited Telhei School on Mota Lava in the Banks Islands where she spoke to students about her journey in sports, particularly encouraging girls to get involved.

Her message resonated, and 20 girls registered for her U19 training group, part of a VVF talent identification initiative.

The Vanuatu Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (VASANOC) is collaborating closely with the VVF and other sports federations to ensure a smooth transition for participants from Vanuatu to Palau for next year’s Mini-Games.

As the games approach, Pata’s leadership is already creating ripples of excitement across the nation, with many hoping she can guide Vanuatu to yet another triumph on the international stage.
