A Regional Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Workshop will be held in Port Vila from March 23 to 27.

Organized by the Climate and Oceans Support Program in the Pacific (COSPPac), in partnership with the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department, the workshop will bring together National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and national stakeholders to strengthen inclusive weather and climate services across the Pacific.

Throughout the one-week, participants will engage in discussion on ensuring meteorological information and early warnings are accessible to diverse communities.

The five-day event will cover topics such as the integration of GEDSI into weather services, inclusive consultation methods, accessible communication, and institutional mainstreaming, with the goal of developing action plans for improving regional collaboration and ensuring inclusive services.

Day One sessions will start with an introduction to GEDSI in the context of weather and climate services, and how GEDSI aligns with NMHS mandates and COSPPac and Weather Ready Pacific priorities.

The next day will focus on practical methods for inclusive consultations, including disability inclusion in service design in collaboration with persons with disabilities and organisations of persons with disabilities.

Participants will examine ways to make bulletins and warnings more accessible through appropriate formats, language and communication channels on Day 3. activities.

Further discussions will centre on integrating GEDSI into NMHS plans, standard operating procedures and reporting frameworks, the development of six-month GEDSI action plans for NMHSs, coordination and support mechanisms under COSPPac and the Weather Ready Pacific initiative.

The workshop is expected to strengthen regional collaboration and promote more inclusive weather and climate services throughout the Pacific.
