Supported by the We Rise Coalition as part of its monthly activities, the Working Group of the Vanuatu Women’s Festival held two planning meetings on 27 January 2026 and 05 February 2026. The Working Group comprised representatives from Sista, UN Women, CARE in Vanuatu, Youth Challenge Vanuatu, the Vanuatu Human Rights Coalition, Further Arts Vanuatu, the Port Vila City Council of Women, and independent GEDSI Consultant Hannah Tamata. Together, they worked collaboratively to plan and coordinate the Vanuatu Women’s Festival, which forms part of the National Feminist Forum towards the 4th Pacific Feminist Forum.
The purpose of the Working Group was to support the co-design, planning, coordination, and delivery of the Vanuatu Women’s Festival. Each member provided leadership, technical input, oversight, and accountability throughout the preparation and delivery of the festival, ensuring that the event was inclusive, meaningful, and reflective of the priorities and experiences of women and girls across Vanuatu.
During the meetings, the Working Group identified key stakeholders and community participants to be engaged in the festival, ensuring inclusive representation from grassroots women’s organizations, young people, and persons with disabilities. The group also developed a proposed agenda for the two-day event scheduled for 19th and 20th February 2026, outlining key sessions, activities, and areas of engagement.
The Working Group also developed and agreed on the theme for the Vanuatu Women’s Festival: “Wan kalja, wan lanwis, wan wokabaot — tugeta yumi yunaitem woman Vanuatu long niufala lukluk” (One culture, one language, one journey — together we unite Vanuatu women towards a new vision). The theme reflects the collective spirit of the festival, highlighting unity, diversity, shared experiences, and the importance of bringing women and girls across Vanuatu together to shape a shared future. The Working Group also reviewed and approved the festival logos to ensure they appropriately represented the purpose, identity, and values of the event.
Through these discussions, the Working Group strengthened collaboration across the women’s rights movement by shaping the festival’s vision, program, logistics, communications, and coordination responsibilities. The meetings also provided an opportunity to identify priorities, celebrate women’s leadership, and ensure the festival reflects the voices and experiences of women and girls across Vanuatu.
