ActionAid-leaders-arrive-for-women’s-symposium

Secretary-General of ActionAid International, Arthur Larok from Uganda, and the Executive Director of ActionAid Australia, are in Vanuatu for the Women I TokTok Tugeta (WITTT) Federation launch and symposium next week.

Set for Monday to Tuesday next week at the Convention Centre, the event will center on empowering women and promoting gender equality.

The ActionAid Vanuatu’s Country Manager, Flora Vano, have welcomed the international leaders at the organization’s head office in Port Vila, where they shared a traditional meal of laplap sosor, showcasing the country’s hospitality, according to Communication Officer Roslyn Tari.

Over 300 women from Malekula, Malo, East Efate, Tanna, and Erromango have gathered in Port Vila ready for the symposium.

Tari noted the representation includes 40 participants from Malekula, 40 from Malo, over 90 from Tanna, 50 from Erromango, and more than 100 from East Efate.

The event will feature a grand parade in traditional attire, featuring 50 women from Erromango showcasing their traditional Tapa attire for the first time.

The parade will move from Anchor Inn to the Convention Centre, followed by a welcome ceremony led by a chief from the Port Vila Council of Chiefs.

The day’s agenda includes an overview by Rosette Kalmet, speeches by Vano, award presentations, and the official launch of the WITTT Federation by the First Lady. Celebrations will continue with a cake-cutting ceremony, market activities, and dancing.

Supported by the DFAT/Australian Government, the British High Commission, Vanuatu Government, and ActionAid Australia, the symposium highlights a collective commitment to gender equality and community empowerment through shared experiences.

Established after Cyclone Pam in 2015, ActionAid Vanuatu now boasts over 9,000 members.
