Table tennis umpire Jozianna Shing Tarosa has become the first umpire to officiate at the prestigous International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)-Oceanaia Continental Cup.

The tournament is set to unfold in Hamilton, New Zealand from December 9 to 10. Prior to that, Tarosa’s will participate in the Level 2 Umpires Course and Basic Referee Course from December 4 to 8.

The intensive training laid the foundation for her role as an umpire in the competition. Anolyn Lulu from the Vanuatu Table Tennis Federation expressed her pride and excitement about Tarosa’s participation at the continental event.

Lulu said this marks a historic moment for Vanuatu, as never before has a representative from the nation taken on the role of an umpire in this event.

“This achievement is a testament to the successful development of the sport of table tennis in Vanuatu,” stated Lulu.

She highlighted Tarosa’s positive performance at the 17th Pacific Games as a contributing factor to her nomination.

Tarosa has already left the country for the ITTF Continental Cup.

Vanuatu Table Tennis Federation sees Tarosa’s participation as a stepping stone towards furthering the growth and recognition of table tennis in Vanuatu.
