Alleged Sexual assault against a female member of staff has been confirmed as the reason behind the suspension of Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF) acting General Manager (GM) Viliame Baleitavua.

A source within the institution who wishes to remain anonymous told Daily Post that the alleged incident happened around 30 September at a night club in town. Despite alleged threats to have her sacked, the victim has filed a report with the Police family protection unit.

Another report was also understood to be made to the former VNPF board that resulted in the suspension of Baleitavua.

According to our source, the suspension was purposely to put out the acting GM and allow the alleged assault to be investigated.

Daily Post was also informed that Mr Baleitavua was back home in Fiji when the report was filed with police.

He was suspended in October this year and the case is still under Police investigation.

A similar but separate incident has happened in the past that resulted in the termination of the accused staff from the Fund.
