After a month-long journey across Southeast Asia and China, Vanuatu’s top beach volleyball duo, Bella Lawac and Shersyn Toko, return .home today triumphant, clinching a bronze medal at the FIVB Beach Volleyball .Pro Tour — Challenge in …Qingshan, Wuhan, China …on Sunday.

The ni-Vanuatu pair secured third place after a thrilling 2-1 victory over China’s team of Lin and Xie.

In the final match, Lawac and Toko took the first set 21-15, faltered in the second with just 7 points against the hosts’ 21, but stormed back in the decisive third set, winning 15-10 to seal the bronze.

This marks their second FIVB tour medal to date and a special milestone for Coach Miller Pata, who celebrated her first FIVB Pro Tour medal as a coach.

The bronze medal came after a challenging series of tournaments that began at the AVC Tour Phu Yen Open in Vietnam (April 25–28), followed by the FIVB Futures Tour in Nuvali, Philippines, then the AVC Pingtan Open in China (May 8–11), and the FIVB Challenger in Xiamen, China.

Although they fell short of a podium finish in Xiamen, they capped off the Asian leg of their tour in style with the win in Qingshan.

Assistant Coach Manuel Maki, who remained in Vanuatu during the tour, praised the athletes for their commitment and resilience.

“The girls really tried their best. It is not an easy job to get medals—it is mentally and physically challenging—but they pushed through and made it to the podium. I’m so proud of them,” he said.

Lawac and Toko returned to Vanuatu today for a brief rest before preparing for their next international outing.

The bronze medal not only symbolises their grit and growth on the court but also reflects Vanuatu’s rising presence on the global beach volleyball stage.
