Vanuatu-and-Australia-enhance-partnership-with-camp-for-tennis-girls

Thirty- two girls have had the privilege of camping and sessions with Australian Coach Developer Emily Burns from Tennis Australia to build performance and build network among Pacific athletes.

Burns has delivered a 2-day camping program for the first time ever alongside Oceania coaches such as 2 coaches from Solomon Islands, one from Fiji and two from Vanuatu including Lorraine Banimatuku, in Port Vila.

School girls from Guam, Tuvalu, Fiji, Cook Islands, American Samoa and PNG as well as Vanuatu mingled and get sessions from the coaches before day one of the Vanuatu Agricultural Supplies-sponsored Regional Championships 10 edition commenced on Monday.

“With all of the girls participating and take part in the camp, it has been great to see the level that they have and the work that they been putting them into with their coaches and it has been great to see them come together and get to know each other a little bit better. And also, to practice and develop their game further in a group setting,” Coach developer and youth development Coach Emily Burns said.

She said with the high number of participations like this one means the more experience athletes can have.

Made possible through the Pacific Aussports program, the Deputy High Commissioner of Australia Emily Fisher noted that the program supports higher participation by Pacific women and girls in tennis and strengthen governance and administration of women’s sports organization in the region.

“I hope you will also take the opportunity to network with other players, coaches and officials from across the region,” she said.

She congratulated the Vanuatu Tennis Federation (VTF), Oceania Tennis Federation (OTF), and Tennis Australia for organizing the sporting event ahead of the VAS regional championship.

“Australia and its regional neigbours share a deep passion for sports and events such as this bring people closer together. Sport is deeply embedded in the culture and identity of Australia, Vanuatu and the broader Pacific,” she said.

VTF President Cyrille Mainguy thanked the coaches players and the Australian government for the partnership and hoped that the girls make the best out of the camping event.
