The Londua FC from the Penama Football Association (FA) have created history by reaching the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) Champions League final for the first time.

The team, hailing from Londua village on Ambae, defied the odds to claim second place in the national tournament receiving VT200,000, a feat that President of VFF, Lambert Maltock, hailed as a historic achievement.

Londua FC competed in Pool B matches held in Santo before making their way to Port Vila for the grand-final. Their perseverance and determination culminated in a hard-fought second-place finish.

Their final showdown was against Penama Tigers FC, another team from the Shefa FA, marking the first time in VFF Champions League history that two teams outside of the Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) reached the final.

Traditionally, women’s football in Vanuatu has been dominated by PVFA teams, making this year’s final a ground-breaking moment for regional football development.

Maltock said: “Women’s football is not easy to grow because of our culture; it prevents most women from playing football. Today, football is trying to break down these barriers, so it is hard work. But I want to congratulate the teams and the leaders that have created opportunities for women’s football to break that barrier.

“Thanks to the MAs and the Presidents of the FAs for continuing to encourage women’s football in your areas.”

Meanwhile, Jane Alatoa from the Penama Tigers was awarded the Best Scorer of the tournament. She emerged as the standout goal-scorer, netting an impressive five goals.

Valerie Viralora Frank was names Best Player of the tournament. She showcased outstanding skills and leadership throughout the competition.
