The Ministry of Youth, Justice and Community Services (MoYJCS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MOIA) to increase collaboration between key sectors, particularly in improving services for vulnerable children.

A statement released by the MoYJCS affirmed that the MOU was signed by Director General (DG) Arthur Faerua of MoYJCS and DG Leith Veremaito of MOIA.

The agreement focuses on strengthening the partnership between the Child Desk, under MoYJCS, and the Department of Civil Registry and Identity Management (CRIM), which operates under MOIA.

A key objective of this collaboration is the integration of the newly developed Child Protection Information Management System with the CRIM system.

This integration aims to ensure accurate and up-to-date information on children in need of protection, allowing for improved tracking and management of child protection services provided by the Child Desk.

DG Faerua noted the importance of the agreement, stating, “This partnership will allow us to better support vulnerable children by ensuring accurate data is used to track their progress and provide timely interventions.”

He also thanked the MOIA for their support in making this initiative possible.

DG Veremaito emphasised the critical role of the Department of CRIM, noting, “Our department is responsible for providing National ID numbers and other essential personal data for all citizens and residents. By collaborating with the Child Desk, we can better identify and serve children who may need care and protection.”

He added that the partnership would strengthen national efforts to safeguard and support vulnerable children.

The Department of CRIM serves as the country’s primary source of accurate citizen data, making this partnership a fundamental step in improving child protection services nationwide.
