CARE Vanuatu and SISTA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their partnership in advancing gender equality, disability inclusion, and inclusion of marginalised groups across Vanuatu.
The MOU reaffirms both organisations’ commitment to working together in mutual respect and trust, strengthening cooperation through the sharing of ideas, information, and resources.
Aligned with the Government of Vanuatu’s development priorities, CARE’s global expertise and long-term programming strategy, and SISTA’s strategic objectives and values, the partnership supports decentralisation and localisation efforts.
The collaboration prioritises shifting resources and decision-making power to local actors.
A key pillar of this alliance is the use of arts, media, and creative communications to amplify the leadership of women and girls, challenge deeply-rooted harmful gender norms, and reshape public discourse through ni-Vanuatu voices.
“This is more than a formal agreement; it is a commitment to transformative change,” said SISTA Executive Director Yasmine Bjornum.
“This renewed commitment through to 2030 allows us to move beyond project-based cooperation toward a deeper strategic alliance rooted in feminist values and local leadership.
“Together, we are building a movement where every woman and girl in Vanuatu can enjoy her rights and participate fully in decisions that affect her life.”
“By pooling our technical strengths and leveraging SISTA’s creative leadership, we are building an equitable partnership that prioritises locally led solutions,” said CARE Vanuatu Country Director Sébastien Fesneau.
“Our goal is to ensure the voices and rights of women and girls remain at the centre of Vanuatu’s development.”
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding, agreeing to adhere strictly to organisational safeguarding policies and to promptly report any concerns. Joint safeguarding refresher sessions will be conducted for staff and volunteers, particularly at the start of new collaborative activities.
This renewed partnership reflects CARE Vanuatu and SISTA’s shared vision of a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient Vanuatu driven by strong local leadership and collective action.
