Vanuatu’s volleyball duo Linlin Matauatu and Bella Lawac have secured a silver medal at the 2025 G.J. Gardner Homes NZ Beach Tour Auckland, New Zealand.

This marks the first international tournament appearance for the Vanuatu Volleyball Federation (VVF), making their runner-up finish an impressive achievement.

Matauatu and Lawac faced stiff competition in the final, going up against Japan’s national team players Matsumoto Non and Matsumoto Ren, who ultimately claimed the gold medal.

The USA secured the bronze medal, finishing just behind Vanuatu.

Matauatu, who returned from China late last year, faced additional challenges in preparation for the tournament.

Due to the December 17 earthquake, training time was severely limited, and the duo only managed a few warm-up sessions before heading to New Zealand.

Despite this, they put up a strong performance throughout the tournament, showcasing their determination and competitive spirit.

Reflecting on their achievement, Matauatu expressed pride in their performance, especially after experiencing some tough losses last year.

She remains optimistic about their future, believing this silver medal sets a strong foundation for further success.

Currently, the team is stationed at Mt. Maunganui, where they are preparing for their next competition.

They extended their gratitude to the VVF, Debbie Masauvakalo, for her unwavering support and inspiration.

They also acknowledged the contributions of their sponsors, Titan FX and the VVF for ensuring their participation in this international event.
