Nine women have received certificates following the successful completion of the first phase of the Volley4Change (V4C) program.

V4C is a community initiative aimed at empowering women through sport, health awareness, and leadership development.

Launched to coincide with International Women’s Day, the program is a partnership between the Vanuatu Volleyball Federation (VFF) and the Port Vila Council of Women, targeting five wards across Port Vila over a three-month period from March to May.

The first ward to host the Volley4Change program was Freswota 6, where activities were conducted over two weeks at the local community centre and the VVF compound at Stade.

Participants engaged in sessions covering leadership, communication, health, nutrition, inclusion—including disability and gender—and took part in interactive group discussions and activities.

The second week shifted focus to practical volleyball training at the Stade beach courts, where participants learned skills, drills, and refereeing techniques.

The program also featured an informative SRH awareness session led by a nurse from the Vanuatu Family Health Association.

The initiative concluded with an official certificate presentation ceremony attended by Jane Iatika and Melka Numbu, who witnessed the achievements of the participants.

One of the program facilitators, Amelia Lawac, said the initiative provides valuable opportunities for women and young mothers to grow and thrive.

“This opportunity can help women and young mothers build confidence and improve their lives through what they have learned,” she said.

To further support continued engagement, VVF donated volleyball equipment to participants, encouraging them to remain active and involved in the sport.

As part of the initiative, VVF also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vanuatu Family Health Association to support the collection of key health data and deliver health checks and awareness sessions on sexual and reproductive health in participating communities.

The program has also received backing from the Australian High Commission and the Port Vila City Council, highlighting strong institutional support for community-based development.

V4C program will now move to its next location, with the Southern Ward’s Tokyo community set to host the upcoming sessions from March 23 to 27, as the initiative continues to expand its reach across Port Vila.
