Over 60 Domestic Violence Protection Orders issued since January

The Vanuatu Police Force (VPF), through its General Duty Unit in Port Vila, has issued over 60 domestic violence orders to various families since the start of 2025.

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID), under the Southern Command, handles daily cases involving domestic violence victims.

A large number of these incidents occur when a man or father in the household consumes excessive alcohol, which is a key contributing factor to domestic violence in communities on Port Vila and Efate.

Domestic violence is a growing concern in Port Vila. Many families are struggling due to difficult life circumstances, often resulting in broken homes.

VPF is deeply concerned about the impact of domestic violence on children growing up in these communities. With an increasing number of broken homes, it is becoming harder to control the situation, leading to growing concerns about the future of these children.

VPF also acknowledges the important work being done by community leaders in addressing domestic violence.

New Police Clearance location to streamline services

The VPF has apologised to everyone who has faced difficulty when trying to obtain a police clearance certificate from different locations in the aftermath of the earthquake.

This situation has led to complaints, and many people have lost their applications. However, VPF is announcing a new location to make the process easier.

The VPF cashier will now operate normally at a new site for payments and submitting applications for police clearance certificates.

The new cashier location is inside the police building, situated on the right side of the road near the Child Care Centre, behind the police barracks. From Independence Park, the police building is on the right, next to the barracks. From Port Vila Municipal Hall, the police building is on the left.

Officers will be available to assist everyone with the applications.

Due to space limitations, the pick-up of police clearance certificates will still take place at the Grand Stand from 3pm to 4pm.

The police request that everyone respect the process and work together with them.

Freshwota youth complete first Ward Safety Training

The VPF conducted the first-ever training for the Ward Safety team in Port Vila, specifically around Freshwota 5.

The two-day training saw 12 young boys participating, all from the Freshwota 5 area.

During the training, the participants learned the laws and skills needed to help them as members of the Ward Safety team for Freshwota 5. A youth leader from the area, Atkins Tungen, expressed his gratitude as a community representative and thanked the VPF for organising the training.

He also shared his excitement about his new role and the role of his colleagues as volunteers in the Ward Safety team.

In his closing remarks, VPF Commander South, Jackson Noal, thanked the participants and emphasised the importance of having a safe community.

He also assured the participants that police officers under his command would work closely with the youth to ensure the voluntary work of the Ward Safety team would be supported and understood by the community.
