A workshop ending today in Port Vila aims to help health workers in Vanuatu improve their response to emergencies involving mothers and newborns.

The Pacific Maternal and Neonatal Emergency Training (PMNET) Refresher Training of Trainers (TOT) is hosted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in collaboration with the Pacific Society for Reproductive Health (PSRH). The training brought together PMNET trainers from across Vanuatu to refresh and develop their skills.

According to the ministry, the purpose of the workshop is to equip these trainers with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively teach midwives and nurses, with the goal of improving maternal and neonatal care across the country.

The PMNET TOT workshop is a step towards ensuring that health professionals in Vanuatu are better prepared to manage maternal and neonatal emergencies, with the aim of raising the standard of care and outcomes for mothers and newborns.

The MOH acknowledged PSRH for leading the training. PSRH is a Non-Governmental Organisation focused on advancing reproductive health in the Pacific. Through training and advocacy, PSRH works to improve maternal and neonatal care in Pacific Island nations.

The ministry also acknowledged the Pacific Medical Association (PMA) for its financial support and assistance in coordinating logistics.

PMA is an association of medical professionals in the Pacific, working together to improve health services through collaboration, professional development, and humanitarian efforts.

The workshop commenced on Monday and concludes today.
