The suspect in the stabbing of the woman at Ohlen Freswin in Port Vila Thursday morning resulting in death has been arrested.
The arrest has been confirmed by Police Acting Chief-of-Staff Colin Kalwatman, who referred the Daily Post to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for more details.
The Acting Officer-in-Charge of CID Port Vila, Inspector Davies Paravanua, says the man, named as Raymond Bakoa of Makira/Emae parentage, was arrested by the police on Thursday evening in Ohlen Freswin, not far from the scene of the killing, and held in police custody.
Inspector Paravanua adds that on Friday afternoon the suspect was to appear before the court for remand while police investigation continues into the incident.
“Once the investigation is completed, a preliminary hearing will be held before the magistrate’s court and if there is a case to answer, the matter will be committed to the Supreme Court,” he adds.
The suspect, Raymond Bakoa, was arrested about 14 hours after the woman he was living with, Flora Jerry, of Emae, was brutally stabbed in the neck at about 10 minutes to 5 on Thursday morning and died soon after from stab wounds at Ohlen Freswin.
