At just 25 years old, Ronaldine Tchivi is playing a key role in shaping Vanuatu’s food safety and certification systems.

As a certification officer at Quality Solutions, she helps local businesses meet international standards, opening access to both domestic and export markets. Certifications such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) are essential for global food trade.

Her work is supported by the Australia and New Zealand-funded Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Plus (PHAMA Plus) programme, which is partnering with Quality Solutions to expand food safety certification services in Vanuatu and the Pacific.

Raised in Santo, Tchivi’s interest in agriculture and food systems developed early. “I’ve always been fascinated by agriculture and its potential to change lives. Growing up, I knew I wanted to help my community,” she says.

An Australia Awards recipient, Tchivi earned her degree in Food Technology and Nutrition from RMIT University in Melbourne.

“Studying through the COVID-19 pandemic and being far from home was tough, but I was determined to see things through.

“Education opens the door, but it’s courage that walks through it,” she says.

Her role at Quality Solutions is both technical and practical. She begins by consulting with clients to understand their needs, conducting site visits, and assessing operations. She then helps businesses prepare for certification by delivering gap analysis reports, designing work plans, and training staff on new policies and procedures.

Her work goes beyond paperwork. Tchivi is hands-on, helping businesses implement the necessary changes to meet food safety standards.

“When clients achieve certification, it feels like a victory for everyone. It’s not just about the business—it’s about lifting whole communities,” she says.

As a woman in a field often dominated by men, Tchivi is also helping shift perceptions.

“There are fewer women in science, but that’s changing. I want young girls to never let anything hold them back. Be independent, stand tall, and believe in yourself.”

Her contribution supports broader change in Vanuatu’s food trade sector, aligning with regional and global efforts.

“The partnership between PHAMA Plus and Quality Solutions is creating a path for businesses to grow, reach high-value markets, and improve livelihoods across Vanuatu and the Pacific.”

Tchivi says the work is rewarding. “Success doesn’t come easy, but with determination, anything is possible. The journey may be tough, but the impact you make will last.”
