The University of the South Pacific (USP) celebrates the achievements of 267 students today, Friday 2 May 2025, at its Emalus Campus in Port Vila.

According to a press statement issued by USP yesterday, 178 of the graduates are women, marking a significant step forward in female academic achievement across the Pacific.

The graduates come from Vanuatu, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu, and are joined by family, friends, and supporters attending the ceremony.

USP Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia, in the release, congratulated the graduating class and commended their determination and resilience.

“Your journey has been marked by challenges, and yet here you are, embodying the spirit of strength and perseverance that characterises the people of Vanuatu,” he said.

“You have studied at an institution built for the region, and especially for the people of Vanuatu.

“Your education here equips you not just with degrees, but with the spirit of innovation, community, and environmental stewardship that our Pacific needs now more than ever.”

The 267 graduates represent various disciplines offered through the School of Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics (STEMP), School of Business and Management (SBM), School of Agriculture, Geography, Environment, Oceans and Natural Sciences (SAGEONS), School of Accounting, Finance and Economics (SAFE), School of Law and Social Sciences (SoLaSS), School of Pacific Arts, Communication and Education (SPACE), Pacific Technical and Further Education (PTAFE), and the Pacific Centre for Environmental and Sustainable Development (PACE-SD).

USP stated that this year’s ceremony not only honours academic achievement but also reflects the university’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women through education.
