Vanuatu’s swimmer Loane Russet Oly delivered a standout performance at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, breaking her own National Record in the Women’s 50m Butterfly.

Despite the challenge of competing on consecutive days, Loane swam an impressive 30.69 seconds, nearly a full second faster than her previous record of 31.59 set two months ago at the Australian Uni Sport Nationals in Sydney. She finished 4th in her heat and placed 70th overall in the event.

“I was really excited to swim the 50m Butterfly, this is my fun event, so the nerves of yesterday were gone,” Loane said. “I am really happy with my time. I only went 31 for the first time a few months ago and my goal was to go under 31, so I could not be more pleased. I felt super strong in the water, the race and whole Championships were amazing and I am just thankful for my whole experience here in Singapore.”

Vanuatu Head Coach Lachlan Milner praised her resilience and determination, saying, “Stepping onto the world stage is never easy, but Loane showed grace under pressure and courage in every stroke. That’s what champions are made of. To perform two days in a row, on the biggest stage, is a testament to the work that Loane put in and she has been duly rewarded with that outstanding performance.”

With Loane’s performance marking a strong finish, Vanuatu’s participation at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships has now come to a close.
