Selina Solman will join the Stanthorpe Cricket Association Representative Side for the upcoming Mitchell Shield clash against Warwick Cricket Team as the only female player in the squad.

Solman will become the first woman ever to represent Stanthorpe at this level of men’s representative cricket. Her selection comes on the back of a stellar campaign in the local competition, where she currently leads the wicket-taking table with eight wickets from three outings (figures: 3 / 13, 2 / 9 and 3 / 27).

Joining her is teammate Rival Samson, who sits seventh in the competition for runs scored with 103 runs at an impressive average of 52. A commanding 74 off 59 balls – including 11 boundaries – earlier this season for the Mele Bulls has underpinned his selection.

The match against Warwick this Sunday marks a major milestone not only for Stanthorpe cricket, but for the broader movement of women in the game.

Solman, who plays her club cricket for Souths Cricket Club and is a valued member of the Vanuatu Women’s National Squad, has broken new ground with her inclusion in what has traditionally been a men’s squad.

Her participation sends a powerful message about opportunity, performance and the changing face of cricket in the region. With her current form, intimate knowledge of the game and proven skill set, she is very much up to the task.
