All children turning 4 years old or older before 31 March 2025 should already be enrolled before the academic year begins on Monday, 3 February, across Vanuatu.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) made the reminder to parents and guardians as it confirmed that principals and teachers have been in schools since Monday, 20 January, finalising preparations for the new school year.

On Efate, all schools are set to reopen as scheduled despite the challenges posed by the December 2024 earthquake. Over 200 schools on the island have undergone extensive assessments, with inspections conducted by an infrastructure engineer to ensure the safety of buildings. Schools deemed safe will be used for learning, while alternative arrangements have been established for schools with damaged facilities. These include teaching classes in shifts, using temporary learning spaces, and conducting lessons online where necessary.

Children are encouraged to return to school promptly to benefit from the stability, education, and psycho-social support schools offer. Parents are urged to enrol their children as soon as possible to ensure a seamless start to the academic year.

The MoET remains committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students and school staff while supporting their educational development.
