Classic Signs—long known for its strong support of men’s football—has officially shifted its focus to help elevate the women’s game.

The company, also known as Classic Printers, confirmed sponsorship of the ongoing women’s football championship, which will now be officially known as the Classic Women’s Championship.

Speaking on behalf of Classic Signs, Managing Director Nazreen Shamim announced the decision on Tuesday, stating that it was time their contributions to the sporting community turned towards empowering women.

“Classic has seen that there are a lot of sponsorships, especially towards men. But now we want to help women—to help them grow and develop in football,” said Mrs. Shamim, who is also the wife of Abdul Shamim, owner of Classic FC in Luganville.

She further encouraged women and girls across Vanuatu to take up the sport, emphasizing the importance of promoting the game among females and setting a foundation for future success.

The Port Vila Football Association’s (PVFA) Women’s Development Officer, Rose Moise, welcomed the support, calling it a great turn of events for women’s football.

“We have found it very hard to secure sponsorships—especially for women. It is notable in the community that when it comes to women, they are either child bearers or housewives,” she said.

“But thank you for this generous support, not just for girls but women as well. This will help us in the fight against NCDs and prove that if men can make it to the OFC and beyond, so can we.”

The championship, which has been underway for at least five weeks, now takes on a new identity and purpose, with the Classic Women’s Championship standing as a beacon of opportunity and equality for women in sport.
