A man from Epi has been arrested for allegedly committing incest with his daughter.

Police at Rovo Bay said they received a report on the alleged incest several months ago but could not make the arrest due to resource limitations.

They said they had notified the office of the Shefa Commander in Port Vila. Last week, police officers traveled from Port Vila to south Epi to arrest the suspect.

The suspect is married and has several children. His daughter whom he allegedly committed incest with is the eldest.

He was charged for unlawful sexual intercourse and incest, said the police.

He has been remanded and will be appearing before court for preliminary inquiry next week, according to the Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) Media Unit.

Part 2 of section 95 of the Penal Code [CAP 135] states that: “ No person of or over the age of 16 years shall commit incest.

“Penalty: Imprisonment for 10 years.”
