This week’s champion profile features Haley Hannam, 25, originally from Efate, who plays for Selwyn Senior Women’s Reserve of Canterbury in New Zealand (NZ).

The central attacking midfielder and forward scored the most goals in a football match during a workshop in Christchurch, earning her the Golden Boot Award for the year.

The NZ Manaaki scholar is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Agri-Business and Food Marketing with a specialization in Supply Chain Management.

She shared that her passion for football has been lifelong, having previously represented her school in the Port Vila Football Games.

Hannam graduated with a Diploma in Agri-Business from Vanuatu Agriculture College in Santo.

“Playing football abroad has enabled me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, allowing for constant networking opportunities,” she said.

“My teammates and coaches have introduced me to various playing styles and skills, and having access to equipment has been a significant advantage, overall, this experience has helped me develop resilience, adaptability, and confidence.

“After completing my studies, I plan to return home and use my skills to make a difference in my community.

“My goal is to promote local buying by starting a community-focused supermarket and supporting our farmers to meet local needs sustainably.”

“Ultimately, I want to reduce imports, encourage self-sufficiency in farming, and empower our farmers.

“To achieve this, I prioritize my physical health by playing football, which helps me develop discipline, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills essential for my future success.”

In addition to her academic and athletic commitments, she manages her duties as a young parent to her three-year-old daughter.
