hospital-redevelopment-program-phase-2

Phase 2 of the Vanuatu Hospital Redevelopment Program will commence soon, following the approval of clinical services models for three hospitals: the Vila Central Hospital (VCH), Norsup Hospital on Malekula and Lenakel Hospital on Tanna.

Approved by the National Working Group of the Ministry of Health (MOH), the clinical services models marks a significant step forward in the program.

The models consider the disease burden of each province, current clinical services for each hospital, and the environment and structures. These specific hospital models identify the clinical and non-clinical services that should be provided to meet demands of provinces, and in the case of VCH, the national referral needs.

Phase 2 of the program will look at how to implement these identified services by considering the workforce, equipment, governance, and the gender equality, disability and social inclusion requirements of these models.

The Director of Hospital and Curative Services, Dr Sereana Natuman, said in a statement that over the next two months, they expect the National Networking Group to endorse the remaining clinical services for the Northern Provincial Hospital on Santo, Lolowai and Quatvaes Hospital in Sola.

Acting Director General, Dr Samuel Tapo Posikai, confirmed the MOH’s commitment to improving hospital services across Vanuatu.

“This program embodies one of our core goals under the People’s Plan in ensuring that everyone has access to equitable and high-quality health services through Vanuatu,” he said.

The Vanuatu Hospital Redevelopment Program is a three-phase process that aims to empower provincial health leaders, improve clinical services and develop resilient health services and infrastructure.

According to the statement, the MOH is committed to ensuring the successful execution of these plans with support from national and international partners.

The ministry acknowledged the Australian Government and the World Health Organisation for supporting the program.
