Newly elected councillor for Freshwota Ward 3 (FW3), Jennifer Kausei, has thanked the 700 voters who supported her in the recent Port Vila municipal by-election.

Speaking after the official announcement of results, Ms Kausei said the victory belonged not only to her, but to the wider community.

“I want to sincerely thank every voter who placed their trust in me. This win is for all of us, and I will work tirelessly to represent your voices in the council,” she said.

Ms Kausei also recognised the efforts of her campaign team during the election. The celebration event was attended by Vanua’aku Pati (VP) President and Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Johnny Koanapo, who congratulated her on the result.

“Ms Kausei’s win shows that the people of Freshwota Ward value strong leadership and the principles VP stands for,” Mr. Koanapo said. “We are confident she will deliver for the community.”

The DPM noted that although VP currently has no Member of Parliament in Port Vila, the outcome of this council by-election showed what could be achieved through unity. He said voters from other political parties — including the National United Party, Vanuatu Green Confederation, Reunification Movement for Change, Union of Moderate Parties, Iauko Group, Graon mo Jastis Pati, and Leader’s Party of Vanuatu — came together to support a leader they trusted.

Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, Philemon Sitty, presented a mat to DPM Koanapo, saying, “On behalf of the Freshwota community, this mat is a token of appreciation for allowing Jennifer to stand under the VP banner. At the same time, we ask that you continue to support her as she works to implement the projects our community needs.”

Mr. Koanapo said Ms Kausei’s election marks a new chapter for the Tassiriki–Freshwota area, as she prepares to take up her role and focus on local issues over the next eight months before the full municipal elections in 2026.
