On Tuesday 21st February, Father Walter Lini Day, Vanuatu Beach Volleyball celebrated by hosting a Lapita Bay Lini Day volleyball tournament and opening of the Eratap Mama’s Volley4Change Program.

Vanuatu Beach Volleyball wishes to thank Shefa Provincial Government for sponsoring the tournament prizes and Vanuatu’s Cultural Centre Archaeologist Richard Shing for simultatenously raising awareness of the Lapita people history during the event.

It is believed that present day Ni-Vanuatu have Asians Genes from the Lapita people and Papuan Genes from people who migrated 60,000 ago into Pacific. The Teouma Lapita grave site is one of the most significant Lapita site in the Pacific.

Thanks is also extended to the Australian Government for funding the excavation of Teouma Lapita Grave Site as well as funding the Volley4Change program through the Pacific Sports Program. Thank you to the custom owners of the land and George Tasso for allowing the events to take place.
