Nurses and health workers in
Sanma Province underwent a mental health training workshop this week in Luganville.

This workshop addresses issues relating to mental illness where health workers received basic clinical aspects on how to identify and treat people who are affected by it.

The workshop also highlights basic skills that nurses needed to acquire in order to manage patients with mental disorders within the community level.

Mental health is an aspect of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Lately the Mental Health Team has been conducting awareness on this issue and a main message highlighted throughout the campaign is ‘Mental Health is everybody’s business’. The impact of mental health can affect a person emotionally, physically and can even cost a person’s life.

This similar training has been conducted in Shefa and Tafea Province, according to Jerry Iaruel from MindCare Clinic in Port Vila.
