Registered political parties across Vanuatu are actively endorsing candidates for the upcoming provincial elections scheduled for 8 July.

The provinces heading to the polls include PENAMA, MALAMPA, SHEFA, TAFEA, SANMA, and the Port Vila Freshwota–Tassiriki ward.

One key contest will be the Freshwota–Tassiriki ward election, which seeks to fill a reserved seat for women on the Port Vila City Council (PVCC). The seat has remained vacant since the departure of former Deputy Lady Mayor Marie Louise Milne, who successfully contested the national election and is now a Member of Parliament in the 14th Legislature.

Vanuatu’s oldest political party, the Vanua’aku Pati (VP), has endorsed 49 candidates. Other political parties are finalising their candidate lists, indicating a competitive political season ahead.

Meanwhile, the Vanuatu Electoral Office (VEO) is urging all registered voters to check their names with their respective Area Administrators (AAs). The elections will use the existing voter registration roll, and AAs hold the updated lists showing which polling station each voter is assigned to.

The final list of qualified candidates will be announced on 23 June. Campaigning will run until 5 July.

Voters are encouraged to confirm their details early to avoid issues on Election Day.

These elections are expected to shape local governance across key provinces and reflect broader political trends ahead of future national contests.
