Slacks Creek Tigers have been crowned champions of the Carbine Futsal Tournament after defeating Penama at Korman Stadium.

The game was an intense battle with both sides displaying great skills and team work, however the game ended 4-2 in the Tigers favour.

The Tigers captain, Winnie Viti, expressed excitement about reaching the grand-final, and her team’s confidence helped them win the tournament.

Viti noted that the Slacks Creek Tigers, inspired by the Brisbane team, was named by their Australian president and sponsor, David Gould, to represent Vanuatu.

Slacks Creek Tigers was formed to provide more playing opportunities for the excess players from Penama. Viti thanked Gould for sponsoring their equipment and commended their opponents for providing a strong challenge.

Nowanigui, a team composed of girls living behind the Wan Smol Bag premises claimed third place after beating Grand Rabittohs 4-2 on penalties after the teams were locked at 2-2 after extra time.

Senu Moli felt the game went well, and while they performed their best and scored goals, the heat left them feeling tired and affected their performance.

Moli acknowledged that penalties were not their strong suit and admitted the opposing team performed better that day.

She believes the tournament was a valuable preparation for the upcoming 2024-25 championship.

Grand Rabbitohs consist of Grand Hotel staff and some external players.

Carbine Futsal Tournament was sponsored by the Carbine Club of Port Vila and included all teams from the South Efate Women’s Futsal League.
