Around 10 young girls of 9-14 years old have not regretted the decision they took for participating in the SMART Sistas ICT Camp for Girls during their school holiday.
SMART Sistas ICT Camp for Girls strives to empower girls ages 9-14 to pursue educational opportunities in information communication technology areas to help Vanuatu reach gender equality in the ICT field.
This idea has been introduced as a beginner to fill in the gap which Vanuatu is lacking on information communication technology training to empower girls ages 9-14 to become leaders in the ICT field.
Miss Laura Loveland and Mr. Rodney Philemon from Peace Corp have explained that the idea is to expose young girls to ICT tools which allowed them to gain familiarity with them and so they could become active learners and be able to pursue what they are interest in in this field.
Describing the one-week camp as a successful story for these young girls, Ms. Loveland and Philemon hoped this program could develop into an annual activity for young girls, and hopefully be included in school syllabuses for someday.
Within just a week, the girls were able to be introduced to and learned a number of programs which included different coding, graphic design, game design as well as completed projects under the programs they learned. READ MORE
