Vanuatu Women Beach Volleyball team will compete at the first Association Of National Olympic Committee(ANOC) World Beach games which will be held in Doha,Qatar on October 12-16.
Vanuatu Volleyball Federation Media Officer Jill Scanlon said; “ We’ve been told by VASANOC to put in a beach volleyball team, because its a world beach game, new competition.
“ So we will be sending our top women players to compete, we are excited and looking forward for the games,” Scanlon said.
Team Vanuatu consists of Captain Sherysyn Toko, Loti Joe, Maybel Ravo, Luduine Tebeim, Majabelle Lawac and Chantale Willie
1,237 athletes from 97 countries have qualified to take part in the inaugural World Beach Games in Qatar.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) has confirmed that some of the world’s best athletes from all five continents will be competing for 350 medals in 14 disciplines across 13 sports.
The competition begins on October 11, one day before the opening ceremony, and wraps up on October 16 with three venues being specially created to welcome the world to Qatar.
“We are delighted to confirm an impressive number of athletes and countries that have qualified for the first ANOC World Beach Games,” said LOC Director General, HE Jassim Rashid Al Buenain.
“The event is designed to connect new sports and new stars with a new generation of sports fans. It means we can expect a big celebration of sport in Qatar where all nationalities will come together in the name of fair play for six days of world-class sport.”
The first 2019 ANOC World Beach Games Qatar will be held hot on the heels of the IAAF World Athletics Championship which has been held to exceptionally high standards in Doha, and continues through to October 6.
It is the latest in an impressive list of prestigious multi-sport events that have been held in Qatar, including the Asian Games in 2006 and Pan Arab Games in 2011.
The competition programme includes a mix of beach, water and action sports with 3×3 Basketball, Kitefoil Racing, Open Water Swimming (5Km), Aquathlon, Karate Individual Kata, Beach Wrestling, Beach Tennis, Beach Soccer, Beach Handball, Beach Volleyball, Bouldering, Skateboarding, Waterski Jump and Wakeboard all expecting world-class fields.
Fans will be able to watch live streaming of competitions on the official website – www.awbgqatar.com – launched for the inaugural event.
Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has been named the official partner of the Games while Katara Cultural Village and Aspire Zone Foundation are the Official Venue Partners.

The ANOC XXIV General Assembly will immediately follow the beach games, with 1,000 delegates expected to convene at the annual gathering.
The meetings will take place at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel from October 17-18.
