Two of Vanuatu’s top female cricketers, Rachel Andrew and Vicky Mansale, are currently representing the Southern Districts Cricket Club in the Darwin and Districts Cricket Competition (DDCC), a strong women’s T20 league in the Australian Northern Territory that runs from April to September.

Rachel Andrew, who is Vanuatu’s top run scorer in T20 Internationals, is having a great season. Even though she missed two matches because she was playing for the national team in Papua New Guinea, she is still 4th on the list of top scorers in the competition. So far, she has scored 359 runs, with an average of 89.75. Her best score is 116 runs, and she has already made three half-centuries. One of her first matches included a strong 50 not out, which helped her team win easily.

Vicky Mansale is also doing very well. Known for her all-round skills, she is performing with both bat and ball. She is currently 5th in the league for most wickets, with a bowling average of just 9.75. She has also helped her team by building partnerships when batting and bowling tightly to stop runs.

Their efforts in Australia show how Vanuatu cricket is growing and being noticed overseas. They are also inspiring more young girls in Vanuatu to play cricket and believe in their dreams.

Rachel and Vicky were selected through a special program that brings female players from around the Pacific and Australia to join top clubs in Darwin. They arrived in May and have settled in well — both on and off the field. Besides playing, they are helping out in cricket coaching, youth programs, and club work.

With four matches left in the season, their team, Southern Districts, is in second place and aiming to reach the finals. The experience has helped both players grow, as they now train in top facilities, play under lights, and use indoor nets — all of which are helping them become even better players.
