
The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has announced that the government has begun paying the teachers’ legal entitlements, with VT214, 637, 051 disbursed to 1, 144 teachers so far this year.
Of this total, VT172, 596,00 went to 750 early childhood teachers for minimum wage, VT5,264, 094 covered claims or six junior and senior teachers, VT36, 037, 006 was paid to 383 teachers for housing, and VT739, 951 was for claims from five Year 7 and 8 teachers.
TSC conveyed in a statement that the government has settled the teachers’ claims amounting to VT586, 641, 227 from 2010 to 2023.
“Since 2010, the government has been diligently working to verify claims closely to fall within the parameters of legal standing, process payments, and implement a robust system to ensure timely and accurate disbursements. These efforts show teachers have received their payments, amounting to a total VT586, 641, 227,” stated the employer for all teachers.
Of the VT586, 641, 227, VT147, 000, 000 went to 119 Zone Curriculum Advisors (ZCAs), VT142, 777, 771 was for transfer allowances for 1,224 teachers, VT296,863,516 covered claims for 207 junior and senior teachers, and 155, 576, 267 was paid for claims by 261 Year 7 and 8 teachers.
These payments were made after TSC’s approval.
With the progress of these payments, TSC felt that the government has heard the teachers and urged all of them to continue with their duties while the government continues with its commitment to make payments.
“The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) with the Ministry of Finance will have to come out with the assurance of future payments plan on the TSC approved entitlements for the teachers,” said TSC.
“We remain committed to resolving the remaining outstanding issues promptly and transparently.
“Lastly, in relation to the TSC circular No.2 of 2024, the office of the TSC wishes to inform all that the mentioned circular is an administrative decision made between the employer and the employee, giving updates on the progress of the employees’ claims and its view on the strike to its employee.
