Women-rugby-development-team-to-participate-in-Fijian-Cup

Sixteen Vanuatu women rugby league players accompanied by four officials, will depart today for Fiji to take part in the Fijian Cup scheduled to take place from November 29 to 30.

The delegation includes Head Coach Andrew Kaltongga, Assistant coach David Nicolosi, Trainer David Lolo, and Team Manager Jaimeen Kenni.

The Vanuatu Rugby League (VRL) organized an event, during which players were presented with their jerseys in the presence of their families and supporters, marking the celebration of the forthcoming tournament.

Trainer David Lolo asserts that the concept of enhancing participation, especially among women, is relatively straightforward yet impactful. To address this challenge, it is essential to have a clear vision of what legacy entails for VRL.

“Development must be rooted at the grassroots level rather than at the youth or senior levels. For any development initiative and inclusivity efforts to be effective and successful, the foundation must be established, beginning at the school age level,” he said.

VRL has declared Joanna Kalwatman as the Team Captain and Emma Nguyen as the Vice-Captain as they will be leading the 14 women players.

These players are Stephanie Kalfen, Winona Kalpukai, Yvanka Kalfen, Amele Shem, Carol Shem, Estella Shem, Lavinia Qwari, Jess Neveservette, Doreen Dick, Matalina Masseng, Daniella Kalsrap, Rachel Ruben, Bryanna Kaltack and Sybella Pitchard-Lolo.

VRL expressed gratitude to its esteemed sponsors, Vanuatu Tour Company, for their generous contribution of the teams’ playing kits, and Pacific Island International, which provided support through the training kits.
