While the senior men’s leagues within the Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) have concluded, except for the Vodafone Premier League which is currently on hold, the senior women’s competition is well underway.

The Galaxy women’s team have secured a 4-1 victory over North Efate United last Saturday, while Amical defeated Erakor Golden Star by 6-1.

PVFA’s women’s league was dormant for over two years, however Tafea’s great performance at the recent OFC Women’s Champions League highlighted the need to revive the league.

PVFA President, Harry Atisson, pointed out that the great performance of the Tafea showed that with an active women’s league in place, the level of women’s football will sky rocket both at club and national level.

He said he cannot speak for VFF on the issue of women’s football development nationwide, but within PVFA , the rest of the executive are dedicated to advancing football and appreciates the support from sponsors and the government, which allowed them the use of Korman Stadium.

Attison believes that acquiring more land for additional fields is crucial. He mentioned that PVFA has already acquired pieces of land with the potential to be developed into football fields.

The women’’ league continues this weekend.
