To celebrate International Youth Day 2025, Sista, with support from CARE in Vanuatu, hosted an Intergenerational Dialogue at Alliance Française in Port Vila, bringing together 15 young people from the Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP), Young Men’s Program alumni, and community youth leaders.

Centered on the theme “Positive Influence: Peer Pressure, Youth Role Models & Good Behaviour,” the event created a safe space for young people to engage with inspiring panelists Louisa Mael (YWLP alumna and Finance Officer at the Vanuatu National Youth Authority) and Mike Esrom Kaun (youth advocate and social media influencer).

Through open discussions, participants explored how peer pressure can both positively and negatively influence young people’s lives, the importance of choosing positive role models, and how values such as integrity, respect, communication, humility, and faith contribute to effective leadership. The panel also emphasized the vital role of parents, community leaders, and mentors in supporting young people to make informed and responsible decisions.

Pre- and post-event evaluations showed increased confidence among participants, with many expressing a stronger commitment to listening, leading by example, and supporting their peers through positive action. Participants also highlighted the importance of creating more opportunities for young people to be heard and engaged within their communities.

The dialogue concluded with networking over refreshments, reinforcing connections between youth, community leaders, and partner organizations while celebrating the potential of young people to become positive agents of change across Vanuatu.
