Buggyra ZM Racing driver, Aliyyah Koloc, achieved a career milestone at the Taklimakan Rally, finishing 10th overall in one of the world’s toughest cross-country events.

The 21-year-old Dubai-born driver and her Polish co-driver, Marcin Pasek, completed all 13 stages and more than 4,500 kilometres across western China to secure a top-10 finish.

Koloc finished as the fastest non-Chinese competitor and the fastest woman in the rally, with only 85 of over 150 starters reaching the finish line.

The event also marked a significant milestone for Buggyra ZM Racing, which competed for the first time as part of the factory-supported JJ Sport programme.

Team principal Martin Koloc praised the collaboration and its impact on the team’s performance.

“The support we received from JJ Sport throughout the rally was a completely different experience for us,” he said.

“We have been part of the factory team, with massive support everywhere, and it has been a great experience. We would like to continue this way.”

Koloc and Pasek showed strong pace from the outset, running inside the top five during the opening stages.

However, a brake failure in Stage 3 tested their resilience after a broken brake pipe left them without brakes for the final kilometres of the event’s longest stage.

“The whole day was tricky due to the brakes leaking all day,” Koloc said. “By the last 60 kilometres, we had no brakes at all. We managed to keep a fast pace, but not being able to stop in time was a little stressful.”

Despite the setback, the pair completed the stage and even assisted a stranded JJ Sport teammate by towing the vehicle back to the bivouac.

Further mechanical challenges followed during the rally, including a shock absorber failure and a costly delay in Stage 7 when the car stalled in soft dunes after striking camel grass.

With the starter motor damaged, the crew spent several hours stranded before assistance from two JJ Sport works cars enabled them to restart and continue.

The delay significantly impacted their overall classification, but Koloc responded with a series of consistent performances during the remaining stages to recover valuable positions.

Reflecting on her achievement, Koloc said: “I think overall it was mostly positive, but we did have a couple of ups and downs and the result is maybe not exactly what I wanted.

“We finished 10th overall, which is positive.

“But we made some navigation and driving mistakes, and I think we still have a lot to learn. Hopefully next year we can get an even better result.”

“This Taklimakan Rally has definitely been Aliyyah’s best performance in any rally so far,” said Martin Koloc. “She has delivered consistent results day by day, showing incredible pace. She is really growing as a driver, and I’m very happy for that.”

Aliyyah Koloc and her team will return to competition later this month at Baja Italia, scheduled for June 22-25 as part of the FIA European Bajas Championship.
