The Vanuatu women’s darts team created history at the 2020 Pacific Regional Darts Championship final playoff on Thursday night.

The Ni-Vanuatu women who are out competing in their first international competition created history for themselves as they secured the top two places at the conclusion of the Championship playoff after walloping Tonga 7-4 to play for the gold medal.

It was a massive achievement for Vanuatu Darts Federation on their international tournament debut. The women did not give up following their performance against the top Niue team in the second round where they lost by one point but regrouped strongly and came back strong against the Tongans on Thursday night.

Meanwhile the Vanuatu men’s team lost their final playoff against Tonga and played for bronze medal last night.

Vanuatu Darts Federation sent a team of eight male and eight female players.

Sport federation president Steve Buchanan acknowledges the sponsors.

“The PVDA acknowledges the following sponsors; The Vanuatu Ministry of Sport, Geoff Gee and Partners, Bank South Pacific, BRED Bank, Hon. Albert Williams MP for Ambrym, Titan FX, ASCO Motors, National Bank of Vanuatu, Carbine Club of Vanuatu, Digicel, Vanuatu Services, Tower Insurance, Aluminium Boat and Marine and AutoPro.

“If it weren’t for their generous sponsorship, Vanuatu would not have a representative team in Niue to contest the second South Pacific Darts Championship,” Buchanan said.
